Doctor Bret Law

I will be seeing Dr. Bret Law in Americus, Ga. He is a general physician and a sports medicine doctor.

As of June 1, 2010 he will be using the new hospital in Americus, Ga. - Phobe Putney-
Roger said he is really good. That he will listen to you and if he can't tell what is wrong just by seeing you and taking blood test in his office, then he will send you for test to find out what is wrong.

Dr. Dorcheck

Well, they called me and he said that he could not help me also. So I guess I am stuck with my problem and the pain.

Physical Therapy

Well, I go for my first session this Thursday, May 20th. Will see how it goes. I had to cancel my appointment with the Pain Managment, my insurance will not pay for it.

Wednesday, May 12, 2010

I recieved a call back from the other doctor at Hughston Clinic, and he said that he could not do anything for me.

So I made an appointment with the PT department to see what that is all about. I want to really find out about the water therapy.

I also have an appointment with the Pain Management Center the same day, but I still have to verify that they take my insurance.

The New Doctor

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

Well, the nurse at the new doctor's ( Dr. Lin) office in Albany, Georgia never called me. When I called they said that all calls are returned within 48 hours and please do not call them, that they WOULD return the call.
So I called Hughston Clinic where Dr. Burkus works, that did the other two surgeries. So I checked their web site and they have a Dr. Dorchak who is a spine specialist there. What I did not know was that my orginal doctor only does neck and lower back. But I still can't understand why he did not tell me to check with another doctor to see if anyone could do more for me.
I feel like that Dr. Burkus should have done a complete MRI on my spine, like I ask him to, and if he had seen the problem, then he would not have done the surgeries, except maybe the neck. C5-6 C6-7.

So I blame him for not doing his job the way he was suppose to do.

So Icalled them and they pulled my chart and Dr. Dorchak will look at it and if he thinks he can help me the appointment desk will call me to set up an appointment. This will take up to 14 days.
I have a lot of questions for him, that is, if he thinks he can help, this surgery is a very big deal and I would like to know a lot more about it and what the odds are to it getting me better. According to Dr. Burkus I only have 2 good disks and they are L3 & 4, if I understood him right.

I know that with this surgery, I would not be able to bend my back since it would be fused together, but I have read on the internet where other people have had this kind of surgery and were doing pretty good, also like other people on spine health, not so good. Also my husband has talked to a man that had it and after 1 1/2 years, he was able to return to work, which was pulling a flatbed.

I have checked on the artifical disk, and have read that medicare will not pay for people over 60 to have them put in, even if they put that many in.

On my lower back surgery, L5 S1, both of my disk were fused, where my daughter, who had L4,5 & S1 done, she had one disk put in and one fused. She is 44 years old.

So Thursday, I think I will call medicare to ask them about it.

Seeing a new doctor

Well after we talked it over, I decided to call another doctor for his recommendation. I left a message this morning, May 3, at 9:am. and they are suppose to call me back. I told them a little about my problem and I hope they will call me. I don't know if they will do a complete fusion or not, but that is what Dr. Burkus said that I needed, but that he would not do it.

So, Now I am just waiting.

Firday April 30th

Well, I have seen the doctor. I really don't know what to make of him. When I went to him last Thursday, he said that since he now has seen my whole back through an MRI, then to him my whole back needs fused, not just the T11-L2. When I first went to him, I ask him to do the test on my complete back, but he did not. I feel like now that if he had done this, then he would not have done the surgery on L5-S1.

When he told me this Thursday, I was speakless and then he left, so I did not get to ask him any questions about maybe having artifical disc put in. I know by reading on the internet that he does them.

My sister, who is 12 years older than me , whose back is a lot worst than mine, she went to him and he has ordered a Myelogram test for her back to see if there is anything that he can do for her. With me, he just dismissed me and walked out after recommending Physical Therapy and Pain Management. But both of these are nothing but a bandaid fix. I do not want to take the shots, most time they do not work, ( I have had some, and they did not work) and I do know that if you keep taking them, they will injury your bones.

So now I have to decide what I want to do.

Saturday, May 1st.

I have decided to call some doctors in Albany Georgia and see if they can help me.
I know that Dr. Burkus in Columbus does the disc. recplacements, but when I was there, he never told me anything about them, so now I don't trust him.

More later Monday after I talk to the doctors in Albany.
